"If it was worth [for Vera Dernovsek] to paint it, it is worth looking at." Walter Hickling, Painter

"Vera’s paintings play with life and beauty, relax the eyes, but make you feel your bare bones." Marie Franek, Actress

(From a letter to Vera Dernovsek)
"I like your style. These are clumsy words, but forgive me; I will not try to evaluate your work as a professional: I simply like the paintings and feel in their company as in a company of people who give joy and create good mind-sets in others. I must say that lately there are around me very few such people, almost no one. – Perhaps the pessimistic attitude exudes into the air "free radicals" which slowly and surely poison us whether we like it or not. A picture from you acts as an antioxidant." Markéta Horynová, Doctor (translated from Czech by Vera Dernovsek)

"About painting self-portrait: The eyes are not looking at the viewer, they are looking at the(ir) reflection in the mirror. The look is intense because it's searching. The pose arrested for the same reason. One bristles. You have to know the tension of that search if you've done self-portrait yourself.  I am satisfied that I've done a good job in that search But, as I say, there is no relief in that search. It's a fierce introspection." Vera Dernovsek

About the 2008 Self-portrait: "Excellent! It captures a moment, and the eyes tell a story." Lorne Wagman, Painter
